-
- Our mission is to sustain traditional African art forms, in their indigenous settings, without altering traditional content, form or technique. For reasons both artistic and historical, we have chosen as our focus the traditional art of ethnic groups found within the Niger River Basin in West Africa.

- Currently, sales of our products help to support the work and families of 4 master sculptors and 7 apprentices.

- Conceived in 1994

- Mighty Niger was conceived in 1994 in response to a dearth of aesthetically pleasing, heirloom-quality Kwanzaa ceremonial items. In 1995, in Nigeria and the Republic of Niger in West Africa, we made the first of several prototypes of our Kinaras (candle holders) and Kikombes (unity cups).

- Practical pan-Africanists, we respect the international black dollar. Mighty Niger endeavors to produce all goods, and to satisfy all service needs, using resources within the culture. The black dollars generated by our U.S. sales circulate internationally through the hands of both diaspora and continental Africans -- everyone from our candle makers, to our material suppliers, to our export agents, to our accountants, to our website designers.

- From the Hands of Master Sculptors

- Our motto, "From the Hands of Master Sculptors", suggests our dedication to traditional artists and to aesthetic and cultural authenticity. Such authenticity is guaranteed in our products. Thus, we do not sell the "Made in Korea" Kwanzaa items commonly seen on the market.

- Manufacturing in West Africa is more costly than in Asia, but we think well worth it, given the high quality achieved by our sculptors. We think you will agree.
